Geldbilder, by Isa Genzken

In “Geldbilder“, the multidisciplinary artist Isa Genzken presents new series of paintings in which employs objects from the language of capitalism to explore themes of self- and social-examination. For example, she takes money and incorporates it into her paintings. She uses the very tools of a profit-driven society in her most direct and literal engagement with its principles: Genzken disassociates money from its role as currency, and encourages an appreciation of it as a material object, as a social artefact, and for its symbolic connotations.

In this way, she speaks directly about the monetary value of art. But she also investigates about the dynamic of personal versus social anxiety, and works about the representation of the body, and of herself in particular.

Isa Genzken has long been considered one of Germany’s most important and influential contemporary artists.

About Astrid Jacomme

French photographer living in Barcelona and passionate by street and travel photography. Used to digital cameras, she discovered the magic of instant photography some years ago, when her mother gave her her old Polaroid 635, the same one with which all of her photographs have been taken when she was a child. It probably explains why today the work of Astrid is linked to a reflexion about childhood, emancipation and memories. Maybe because she studied chemistry or just because she understands photography as a creative tool, Astrid likes to intervene her photographs to fulfil the complete artistic process.
